Granite isn’t a slab of rock that’s put through an assembly line and then attached to some cabinets; it’s a natural, living masterpiece that was hundreds of millions of years in the making. Installing a stone surface in your home or business is like investing in an original painting or work of art, and that’s exactly how we handle the process. If you’re working with a fabricator who treats your countertop like just another home improvement project, then they’re doing it wrong.
Here are detailed descriptions for each of the six steps that go into selecting, fabricating, and installing your new stone surface.
1. SELECTION
This is where the journey begins. Selecting the stone for your surfaces can be a deeply personal and exhilarating experience. Premier Granite & Stone has a large and ever-changing inventory that includes the most exotic as well as the most popular stone materials currently available. Since granite and stone are natural products, our inventory is never static. While we encourage you to browse our online galleries to view some of our favorites, keep in mind that our selection updates daily. To see the varieties of stone we currently have in stock, please make an appointment to visit our facility or schedule a consultation.

Select an edge that matches your space and your style.
Choosing the right edge for your new countertop is almost as important as finding the right stone. We offer a standard square eased edge (our most popular option) free of charge, but we also provide single and triple pencil edges, full and demi bullnose edges, ogee edges, and for the truly daring, a rugged rock-style edge. Although we routinely accept custom edge requests, we strongly recommend these seven styles for their enduring beauty and exceptional durability.

2. ESTIMATE
If you have drawings or plans already prepared for your countertops, we can start assembling an estimate for your project today. Drop off your plans at our facility, fax them to 412.429.9476, or send them via email.
We will create drawings for you at no charge.
Our all-inclusive estimates mean no hidden charges later.
After we have drawings of your project, we will provide you with an estimate. This is not a rough guess or ballpark figure. Our estimates are all-inclusive and cover the cost of installation. Once you approve your estimate, we will collect a 50 percent deposit from you that will lock in your place on our templating schedule.

3. TEMPLATE
Our team will visit you at a pre-appointed time to get all the measurements we will need to create a cutting template for your new stone countertop. During your appointment, our technician will mount a laser measuring system on a tripod that will produce a hyper-accurate 3D map of the area where your stone will be installed.
You do not need to remove your existing countertops at this point.
The most common question we get asked is if existing countertops need to be removed in order for us to template your project. The answer is no. All we ask is that you remove any objects like toasters, coffeemakers, or paper towel rolls from your counter space so we can take a clean reading.
Make sure you have any new sinks or appliances on hand.
If you plan to install a new sink, faucet, or cooking surface, then you will need to have those items on hand at the time of templating. You do not need to have them installed. In fact, depending on the make and style, we may take your sink or appliance with us back to our facility so we can gather more precise measurements.
We will review everything you need to know prior to your appointment, but if you have questions in the meantime, please call us at 412.429.9324 or send us an email.
If you’re working with a fabricator who treats your countertop like just another home improvement project, then they’re doing it wrong.

4. REVIEW
This is where the true artistry happens. After we have created your template, we overlay our map onto digital photos of your stone. We then manipulate the position of the template to capture the very best aspects of the material. It sounds simple, but this is the step that can make or break the final look and quality of your project.
We welcome all levels of customer involvement.
If you trust our judgment, great, but if you want us to email you photos of our layouts, we would be happy to. If you want to physically sit in the drafting room with us while we map out your new countertops, we would love to have you stop by. Regardless of your level of involvement, we will always email you for approval before we begin cutting any heavily veined pieces of stone.

5. FABRICATION
During the fabrication stage, we bring your countertop to life through a combination of state-of-the-art CNC router systems and traditional old-world hand-finishing. We then carefully evaluate each completed piece for strength and quality.
The most advanced stonecutting equipment in the world…
The fabricating begins when we enter the data we have collected about your surfaces into our computer system and assign a unique identifier to your project. The computer then transfers this information to our two primary CNC routers. The first router uses a combination of saw blades and waterjets to cut a precision outline into the stone slab that exactly matches the dimensions taken during templating. The second router cuts holes into the slab to fit sinks or appliances. This machine also mills and preps the edges.
…Backed by the best hands-on craftsmen in the industry.
Even the most advanced equipment in the world can’t match the ability of a true stone artisan. Once your stone has been processed by our CNC machines, our craftsmen will set up your countertop exactly as it will appear in your home or business. They then inspect every inch of the surface and match up seams for quality control. After inspection, they hand-finish every edge to ensure that the final product is absolutely perfect. This is a painstaking, time-consuming process, but the results are worth it.

6. INSTALLATION
Once we’ve finished fabricating your countertop, it goes to our racking system and is ready to be installed. We plan our installation appointments with narrow arrival windows to best fit your schedule. When installation day arrives, we remove your existing countertop (if you’ve contracted us to do so). Next, our installers bring in your new stone surface and attach everything in place. Our team will then give your countertop a quick clean to make sure your stone is sparkling.
Your lifetime of enjoying your countertop starts now.
After your stone countertop has been installed and your project has wrapped, we will review care and use instructions with you and will provide you with a reference sheet of best practices to keep your stone looking like new for a lifetime. We will also leave you with a complimentary can of our 3-in-1 cleaner. Trust us, you’ll like it better than the granite cleaner you can find at the store.
